MDS and the Dalal family’s association began in 1980, when Nayan Dalal’s father Pravin Dalal contributed some resources for the mentally deficient children of the Children’s Aid Society.

During his visit to MDC in 2018, Nayan was deeply touched by the work done at MDC and the challenges faced by the 350 abandoned mentally and physically challenged girls and boys. MDC being an old and meagerly compensated institution run by the government; the infrastructure was in shambles. Realizing the dire need of upliftment, The Dalal Family Foundation took on the  responsibility to remodel the entire facility, which included a dormitory for boys, dormitory for girls, shared area, communal bathrooms, an auditorium and most importantly, the kitchen. Much attention was given to provide a healthy and hygienic environment to the children residing at the MDC home.
